Killing the Questions

A friend's observation:

"You tell me that Christianity offered you answers when your life was full of uncertainty. But I say to you that Christianity did not give you answers. What it did was kill the questions."

Legalistic religion is constantly engaged in a battle to kill the questions, isn't it?

"How dare you question the doctrines that were handed down directly from the throne of God?" says religion. "Why do you question our interpretation of the Holy Book? How can you discard our traditions and still call yourself a Christian? "

Only those Christians who have a strong sense of identity can withstand the rejection and judgment that fall on their heads when they commit the unpardonable sin of......ASKING QUESTIONS! It's far easier to shut up and submit, isn't it? To accept what others say rather than struggling to find our own answers. To allow the system to silence us into being good little sheep who bleat in agreement with religion's rules......but never dare offer our own opinions.

Grace resurrects our questions from the religious graveyard and presents them to us alive.

Grace declares, "Your freedom in Christ means that no questions are off-limits. Ask and ponder and reason without fear."

The graceless Church of Law kills intellect and love and life and relationship......and commands submission.

Christ's Church of Love invites us to seek the truth that brings freedom.

You can choose.

Love,
Mickey
